A big part of driving around Oxford and across UK nationwide is using the motorway network and dealing with rush hour traffic. This isn’t covered as part of normal driving lessons and isn’t a mandatory part of your driving test however, we have been seeing an increase in the amount of people are asking specifically for lessons on the motorway to help them prepare for when they can drive on these important roads when alone in the car.
This inspired Oxford LDA’s special offer – we will give you a free 1hr motorway lesson when you book 30 hours’ worth of lessons from us to increase your confidence and experience. The benefit is that you get the extra experience of motorway driving skills whilst being accompanied with one of our qualified instructor. Once you have finished your lessons and passed your test, you will definitely be prepared to drive on your own on any type of road, anywhere in the country.

Buy Local, Support Local Businesses in Oxford, UK

On the day of the driving test, instructors typically charge for 2.5 hours to cover not just the actual test itself, but all the necessary time and support involved. This includes around an hour of pre-test warm-up and final practice, followed by the 40-minute driving test, and additional time afterwards while the examiner completes paperwork (such as issuing the pass certificate), which can take up to 10 minutes. Furthermore, instructors are responsible for driving the candidate back home after the test, as well as potentially having to rearrange or cancel other lessons due to the test’s awkward midday timing. Since examiners are not legally in charge of the vehicle, any damage during the test—such as hitting a kerb or scratching an alloy—falls on the instructor, which adds further risk and cost. Altogether, the 2.5-hour charge reflects the instructor’s time, vehicle usage, and professional responsibility.
